Who better to release the last album of 2023 than the person who released two of my favourites this (last) year – Spectral Lore's 11 Days and Auriferous Flame's Ardor for Black Mastery? I appreciate this particular project because it sits in an ideal middle ground for me between Ayloss' "pure" dungeon synth projects like Ontrothon and Compendium of Curiosities and the metal of Spectral Lore. I need a little menace in my DS and this has just a touch. But also plenty of epic fantasy. RIP 2023.
